Developmental Activities For 7 Month Old Babies: Nature Exploration (a.k.a. Eat Some Dirt!)

Yes, yes, yes! I know it is not my best photography on this blog post but every time I took the time to get a better quality picture THIS would happen ----->
Parker would taste a stick, a rock, a leaf, a little dirt, bird feather or whatever was in reach! While I know it is not ideal for him to put these things in his mouth (The germs, the dirt, the potential hazards! OH MY!) it is however very appropriate for him to be exposed to and discover the nature around him! Putting things in his mouth is just a baby's way of figuring out what it is and how it works.  Pulling the grass, playing with the dirt hanging off the root of the plant, digging the stick in the ground, examining the rocks in his hands, trying to figure out his shadow, feeling the texture of the leaf and ripping apart... this is learning folks! Serious and important  learning!

AND just try, I dare you, to keep him on the blanket behind him with all those "interesting" toys! HA!

Holly Flanders- I am an educational professional with a career that has been focused on infants - 3year old curriculum development as well as the quality vetting and training of childcare professionals.  I am a new mommy on a mission to 'practice what I have preached' with my baby boy while helping new mammas and childcare professionals come up with easy and fun activities to help the babies they love learn and grow!

***All activities are to be done under the close supervision of a caring adult. Keep in mind that if an object can fit through the hole of a toilet paper roll it is a choking hazard  for children under 3 years! ***
