Frequently Asked Questions:
Is there a fee for a nanny to apply or be placed through Choice Parenting?
There are NO fees for nanny applicants
If accepted would Choice Parenting become my employer?
No, Choice Parenting is not your employer. We are a referral agency only. If you are hired by a “client” of Choice Parenting, that family become your employer. We encourage all our clients and referred nannies to consult with a domestic household payroll company to ensure that the standards for payment, tax, insurances and benefits are being appropriately handled so that both parties are within legal compliance. For more information please refer to our household payroll page.
Does Choice Parenting take a cut of my pay?
No! We take a one-time placement fee from the families only. You set your rate and the family pays you directly. Throughout the search and hiring process, we will help advocate for fair pay and benefits for both family and nanny.
What is typical hourly rate for a nanny in the Hoboken/ Jersey City area?
$15-25 per hour Nanny salaries vary based on many factors including:
The nanny- level of education, years of experience and special skills offered
The position- number of kids, schedule, number of hours, flexibility, job requirements and tasks required.
Nanny Taxes and Compliance
Most nannies receive guaranteed hours for the agreed upon schedule. Benefits commonly include: vacation time; paid holidays, paid sick days and reimbursement for use of car on the job.
How do you match families and nannies?
We take time to get to know both our nannies and our families. We work hard to understand not just the logistics of a family and nanny’s schedule and budget but also their personalities, communication style, management abilities, child-rearing phylosophies, lifestyles, hobbies, pet peeves, comfort zones and more. The nanny profession is an employment situation but it is so much more emotional and personal than your typical “job” when you care, educate, and love little kids in the intimacy of a family’s home. In addition to providing professional and safe caregivers, we want to ensure good relationship chemistry and like-minded childcare practices in our nanny-family matches.
How long does it take to find a job?
We aim to represent nannies that we feel are marketable for our clients. This means that if accepted, we are hopeful that you will easily and quickly match with one of our families. However, the answer varies greatly depending on your location, experience, qualifications, current market and season. Some nannies find a job almost immediately while other never do. If accepted to be represented by Choice Parenting, our goal is to guide and support you to help you find the best suited family environment and employment situation as swiftly as possible.
